AFRICA AND AMERICAN TRADE POLICY:
AN UPDATE

Wednesday, September 10, 2014
8:30 to 10:00 a.m. (Registration from 8:00 a.m.)
The National Press Club
529 14th Street, NW
Washington, DC  20045

The first U.S.- Africa's Leaders' Summit last month wasn't just another Washington meeting.  It was a symbol of the growing dynamism of sub-Saharan Africa, home to 10 of the world's 20 fastest growing countries.  It was also a recognition of just how much attention the rest of the world is now paying to Africa.  China, the EU, Japan -- they all have aggressive commercial policies in Africa that often undercut American competitiveness in the region.

The backbone of U.S. trade policy in Africa is the African Growth and Opportunity Act, AGOA, which is up for renewal. (It expires on September 30, 2015).  On Wednesday, September 10, we will look at U.S. trade with Africa, the policy, the commerce, and the challenges.   We will do that with help from these experts:

Angela Ellard
House Committee on Ways and Means
Note to Press:
Ms. Ellard's comments will be off-the-record

Florizelle B. Liser
Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and

Benjamin Todd
Export-Import Bank
of the United States
